Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade

The Parade

Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade was part of the “100 Years of Magic” celebration and officially premiered on October 1, 2001 (although it started performances in September).  It was the second parade to be featured at Animal Kingdom after the short-lived March of the ARTimals parade ended in 1999.  This parade lasted much longer and had a final performance on May 31, 2014.

The Soundtrack and Dialogue
A  note on the soundtrack:  this transcript was built around the official parade CD released in 2001.  There is some dialogue on the soundtrack that is not in the parade and some minor dialogue in the parade that is not on the soundtrack.

(Music and various animal sounds are heard.  The static of a radio transmission begins.  Baloo and King Louie are at the beginning of the parade with some dancers and stiltwalkers.)

Mickey:
(Radio static.) Mickey Mouse to Animal Kingdom.  Mickey Mouse to Animal Kingdom.  Come in, Animal Kingdom!

Animal Kingdom Control (Voice of Jennifer Goodwin):
This is Animal Kingdom control.  We read you loud and clear.  Please proceed with broadcast.

Mickey:
(Radio static.) Hiya pals!  Mickey Mouse here!  Just wanted to give you an update on our position.  If my calculations are correct, me and the gang oughta be at the Animal Kingdom real soon!  So get ready for a wild adventure!  'Cause our Jammin' Jungle Expedition is comin' to town!

Animal Kingdom Control:
Fellow adventurers, please prepare accordingly.  Over and out.

(Animal sounds blend into parade soundtrack music.)

Mickey:
(Radio static.) Mickey to Rafiki.  Come in, Rafiki!

Rafiki:
Hello, my friend!

Mickey:
How's everything look up ahead?

Rafiki:
So many people!

Mickey:
That's swell!  I hope they're ready for a wild adventure!  Well, let's get this show on the road!

Rafiki:
(On a float being pulled by a jeep that also contains Guests.)
We're on our way my friend!  Our journey has begun!
(Singing.)
I am you, and you are me.
We walk down the street,
and we swing from a tree.
We all belong,
and we all got to see.
We're just one great big family.
(Alternate parade lyrics are:
I am you, and you are me.
We run through the field,
and we swim in the sea.
From land to land,
we all will agree.
We're just one great big family.)
(Speaks.)
Here we go now!

Chorus:
So sing it out.
And bark and growl and screech and roar.
And dance along.
And stomp and jump and leap and soar.
And join the adventure the party's begun.
We're jammin' in the jungle to the rhythm of one.

Rafiki:
Come everyone, clap along now!  (Laughs as chorus sings.) That's it!  Don't be shy.  There you go!  My friends are you ready for the party?

Chorus:
Yeah!

Rafiki:
I said, are you ready for the party?

Chorus:
Yeah!

Rafiki:
Then let us go!

Chorus:
So sing it out.
And bark and growl and screech and roar.
And dance along.
And stomp and jump and leap and soar.
And join the adventure the party's begun.
We're jammin' in the jungle to the rhythm of one.

(Transition music with drumming.  Peacock, elephant and giraffe puppets/floats follow operated or ridden on by Cast Members.  A rickshaw pulled by a hippo features more Guests.)

And bark.  And growl.  And screech.  And roar.  And stomp.  And jump.  And leap.  And soar.

Pata Pata Pata Pata Pata.

(Chip and Dale and stiltwalkers marched in front of Minnie's polka dot Jeep that pulled a trailer containing a bathtub that blows bubbles.)

Chorus:

Nants’ iPata Pata.

(This song was made famous by Miriam Makeba and was released in the US in 1967.  It is sung in the Xhosa language and translates very roughly into: "This is it, touch touch.  That's it.  We grooved and said  'look'". )

Minnie:
Oh hello!  Hello there!  It's wonderful to see you all here today.  Oh, I just love a big adventure!  (Chorus continues to sing.) Why, it's a street party!  Come on, dance along!  Oh, this is so much fun!  Oh my!  Uh huh, that's it!  I just love traveling with friends!  Guess what everyone, it's time for you to play along with us.  The words are easy.  They're just "Pata Pata".  So repeat after us.  Here we go!  Pata Pata, Pata Pata!  Pata Pata, Pata Pata! C'mon, try it!  Pata Pata, Pata Pata!  Pata Pata, Pata Pata!  That's it.  Keep it going!  Pata Pata, Pata Pata!  C'mon, let's dance!  Oh my!  Pata Pata, Pata Pata!  Keep the party going now!  Pata Pata, Pata Pata!  Pata Pata, Pata Pata!

Alternate Versions and Merchandise

Starting with the Christmas season of 2004, the parade made an annual transformation into Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade.  The floats and costumes were decorated for the holidays and the soundtrack background had a sleigh bell percussion beat.   In this version of the parade, the music consisted of a revamped theme song promising the parade was a “Jingle jingle jungle full of holiday fun.”  The individual floats also had different dialogue and songs.  Minnie’s float featured “Deck the Halls”.  Goofy dressed as Santa and sang “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”.  Donald sang “Frosty the Snowman” and his float blew snow.

There was also a special version of the parade during the “Limited Time Magic” event in 2013 that featured “rare” characters in front of Mickey’s float including:
Thumper and Miss Bunny
Lilo and Stitch
Koda and Kenai
Meeko and Pocahontas
Russell and Dug
Flik and Atta

The parade was featured throughout the years on the cover of several different park guides.  A postcard was also produced in a 2003 booklet.  Other merchandise included a series of open run and annual passholder pins.  The parade soundtrack was featured on the “Magic in the Streets Parade Magic”  album.  There was also a “pull and go”  toy and a pressed coin that could be made in the parks.
