Village Restaurant Walt Disney World

This two-tiered restaurant overlooking the Buena Vista Lagoon opened in 1975 and also included the Village Lounge where jazz performers would play.  A luncheon menu was available from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and valet parking was available.  Beef, chicken and seafood specialties were served and the restaurant did not take reservations.  The lounge artists performed from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. (9 p.m. until 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays).  At first there was no cover and no minimum but the lounge had to enact a $5.00 cover after it became a popular hangout for college music students.  Artists that performed there included the house band Bubba Kolb Trio and guest artists such as Urbie Green, Teddy Wilson, Clark Terry, Red Novo, Art Van Damme, Benny Carter, Kenny Burrell, Flip Phillips and Barney Kessel.

The eatery became Chef Mickey's in July, 1990 and the lounge became a part of the Disney Cartoon Theater.  The new restaurant took reservations and Mickey Mouse was on hand to greet diners at dinner.  The restaurant closed on September 30, 1995 to make way for the Rainforest Cafe.  A Chef Mickey's Character Buffet is now located at the Contemporary Resort.  For some recipes from the Village Restaurant, click here.

Chef Mickey's Village Restaurant cup Walt Disney World

Perhaps you got a cup like the one above when you dined at the Chef Mickey's Village Restaurant.  The Coca-Cola logo is off to the right and the same Chef Mickey picture is on the back.  This picture of Mickey is similar to the one used on the cover of the 1986 Walt Disney World cookbook.
