In honor of his 50th birthday, Donald Duck got his own parade in 1984. Donald's float featured live ducks wearing party hats. The ducks were contained within the float by a plexiglass barrier. A caretaker would walk along with the float to make sure the ducks didn't get injured or try to escape. A similar parade ran the same year at Disneyland.
The parade featured the song Happy Happy Birthday to You. The birthday ditty was written by Michael and Patty Silversher and a version of this song was also on the Disney record "Splashdance". The song was later used with different lyrics in the post show area in Mickey's Birthdayland. If you go to Walt Disney World today, you can still sometimes hear a variation of this song in restaurants when Cast Members sing to guests celebrating a birthday.
Parade Soundtrack
(Prior to the start of the parade, a fanfare consisting of a synthesizer that sounded like duck quacks was played. The following dialogue was then heard.)
Mickey Mouse: Hi everybody!
Minnie Mouse: Hi boys and girls!
Chip and Dale: Hello! Hi there!
Goofy: Uh, hello.
Mickey: This year is our friend Donald Duck's 50th birthday!
Chip and Dale: That's right! It sure is!
Goofy: Wow! Fifty years!
Minnie: Gee, that's great! Oh, and we're so happy you are all here to help us celebrate.
Mickey: That's right, so please join us now, as we sing "Happy Birthday" to Donald Duck.
Goofy (As he talks, Chip and Dale can also be heard exclaiming in the background): Yeah, come on, that's a good idea. Let's do it.
Mickey: Are you ready?
All: Happy Birthday to you.
Happy Birthday to you.
Happy Birthday dear Donald.
Happy Birthday to you!
Mickey: Let's hear it for Donald!
All: Yay, Donald!
(The parade then kicks off.)
Announcer (Jack Wagner): Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls. Donald Duck's 50th Birthday Parade!
Chorus: Happy Birthday.
It's Donald's Birthday.
Happy, Happy Birthday to you.
Hey Donald!
