Goofy in Disney-MGM Studios Stage Show

 During the parks first few years, most shows were staged at the original location of Theater of the Stars on Hollywood Boulevard from Opening Day until May 2, 1993.  The new location of the theater was unveiled on June 15, 1994 on Sunset Boulevard.  Beauty and the Beast-Live on Stage was the last show at the old location and continued once the theater moved to the new location.  Other shows were performed in their own buildings, such as Here Come the Muppets and Bear in the Big Blue House.  Others were performed on the Backlot, such as Ace Ventura Pet Detective: Live in Action.

The American Idol Experience: Located in the former location of Superstar Television, multiple shows were presented each day and Guests could vote for the other Guests who were the performers.  The final show of each day awarded a "Dream Ticket" that would allow the guest to go to the front of the line at a regional American Idol audition.  The show operated from February 14, 2009-August 30th, 2014.





Hollywood, Hollywood!: Show at the original Theater of the Stars location from Opening Day until August 31, 1991.  It ran during the same time as Swing, Swing, Swing and Dick Tracy Starring in Diamond Double-Cross.  

Hollywood's Pretty Woman:  Show at the original Theater of the Stars location that ran from September 24, 1991 to November 3, 1991.


Lights, Motors, Action!  Extreme Stunt Show: Vehicle stunt show based on Moteurs...Action!  Stunt Show Spectacular at Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris.  It ran stateside from May 5, 2005 to April 2, 2016.  

Muppets on Location: The Days of Swine and Roses:  This show started on September 16, 1991 and ran until January 23, 1994.

Playhouse Disney-Live on Stage!:  Opened on October 1, 2001 and replaced Bear in the Big Blue House show.  The show featured characters from Rolie Polie Olie, Stanley, The Book of Pooh and Bear in the Big Blue House.  On March 4, 2011, the show changed to Disney Junior-Live on Stage!

Power Rangers: In 2001, Disney acquired the Power Rangers brand during the purchase of Fox Family Channel.  The characters appeared at the Studios along with their vehicle for awhile and Disney sold the rights to the characters in 2010 back to the original owner Saban Brands.  



Star Today:  Celebrities would visit to be interviewed and put their handprints in cement in front of the Great Movie Ride.

Swing, Swing, Swing: Short-lived show at the original Theater of the Stars location from April 7 to April 18 1990.

Walk-Through Exhibits

AFI Showcase: New name for Studio Showcase at the end of the Backstage Studio Tour starting in December, 1995.  It closed on August 16, 2014.

Backstage Pass to 101 Dalmatians: Part of the Backstage Studio Tour beginning in 1996.  Located on Mickey Avenue and themed to the live action film.

Journey Into Narnia:  Creating the Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe/Journey Into Narnia: Prince Caspian:  Located in Soundstage 4 on Mickey Avenue, this was a walk-through exhibit that featured the first Narnia movie from December 9, 2005 to January 1, 2008.  It later featured the Prince Caspian film from June 26, 2008 to September 10, 2011.

The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow:  This walk-through in Soundstage 4 replaced the Prince Caspian exhibit and ran from December 6, 2012 to November 6, 2014.  

Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights: Christmas light show the premiered in 1995 on the Residential Street.  There was no show in 2003 due to construction but it returned to Streets of America in 2004.  In 2006 it was referred to as the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.  Guests had their last chance to see the lights, falling snow and hidden cat decoration in 2015.

Rocketeer Gallery:  A display of costumes and movie props from the Rocketeer film.  It was during 1991 from July to September and was later replaced by Studio Showcase.

Studio Showcase: Replaced the Rocketeer Gallery and opened on September 29, 1991.  It featured props and costumes from the latest movies and later located to the end of the Backstage Studio tour.  In December of 1995 it became the AFI Showcase.
